Feasibility study of dry port in Sangli soon

A team of officials from the revenue department, Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) and the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) will soon visit Ranjani village in Jat tehsil of Sangli district to study the feasibility of establishing a dry port.

Recently, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, during his visit to the district, announced the establishment of a dry port to boost agricultural exports from Sangli and Solapur districts. The dry ports are the inland ports that connect the maritime trade ports. Commercial operations similar to seaports are carried out in inland dry ports, e.g. B. sorting the products, packing and storing the containers. The containers are then transported directly abroad via seaports.

Jayant Patil, the state’s irrigation minister, held a stakeholder meeting in Mumbai on Thursday. “We discussed the feasibility of building the dry port in Ranjani. We have approximately 250 acres of land available to be transferred to MIDC for construction of the dry port. The dry port needs a rail connection. The team finds suitable locations where container ports are built along the railway line. The dry port will boost agricultural exports from the region,” Patil said
